In the May 22nd edition of the Leader Telegram they had the following news: “For three years in a row, UW-Stout is the top recycler in the state among universities & colleges that competed in a national “Recyclemania” event. UW-Stout led the way and placed 28th nationally, up from 31st place in 2015. UW-Stout also was the No. 1 recycler in Wisconsin in 2014 as well. The 2nd ranked school in Wisconsin this year was UW-Platteville, at number 58. This year’s event was managed by Keep America Beautiful, and included 350 universities & colleges from 48 different states in the U.S., the District of Columbia and in Canada. Schools reported the combined weight of their recycling efforts, including compost and trash between Feb. 7th and April 2nd.
In the Grand Champion division, UW-Stout’s recycling rate was over 53%, an increase from just over 30% previously. The school had 67,570 lbs. of recycling and 67,170 lbs. of compost. The amount of trash UW-Stout sent to landfills during the measured period was 128,708 lbs.
A recently announced AARP Smart Driver Course is slated for Friday, June 10: The course focuses on helping older drivers update their knowledge & skills in efforts to prevent traffic crashes & violations, and maintain mobility & independence. The event covers age-related physical changes, declining perceptual skills, rules of being on the road, local driving problems, and license renewal eligibility. Graduates may be eligible for discounts on their auto insurance premiums.
