A letter is sent to the occupant and another to the property owner. About 80% of the problems come from rental properties. The letters are specific as to what the violation is, and the recipients are given 14 days to make the necessary changes. The minimum fine is $250 plus court costs; there could be a fine of up to $500 & jail time. 75% of those sent a letter will comply.
